This resource is the support the teaching and delivery of the CAIE Poetry Anthology from ‘Songs of Ourselves’.
It includes - for each poem - contextual information, a range of activities / starters, fully annotated poems, and then some suggested topic sentences and deeper meanings (interpretations / readings) of the text.
Naturally, there will be plenty of disagreement about the analysis - that is perfectly fair; this does NOT claim to be infallible or perfect. However, I would suggest that it is an excellent resource and goes far beyond what most GCSE students and teachers would need - which is a good thing - and would stretch the most able. Equally, even if you disagree with the close language analysis or interpretation, it should prove useful in helping to generate that alternative / counter-reading (i.e. I wish I had something like this for every new text or anthology to then ‘disagree’ with!).
Overall, the intention of this is that it proves useful to you and your students - and I hope it achieves that aim.
