A full 1 hour lesson designed for a mixed ability year 8 class.
This is the 9th lesson in “Chapter 1 - Health and Lifestyle” from Activate 2, Biology. This lesson is on ‘smoking’.
This lesson should be suitable to teach to any KS3 Biology class, even by those where Biology is not their specialism.
This lesson (and all lessons in this unit) is designed to be interactive and engaging, with plenty of real world examples and independent tasks.
From this lesson, students should be able to:
- Explain what is meant by the term ‘passive smoking’
- Recall the harmful substances found in cigarette smoke
- Describe the harmful effects of nicotine, tar and carbon monoxide on the body
- Recall some common health issues caused by smoking cigarettes
- Explain how smoking causes emphysema, respiratory infections and heart disease
