**A weekly plan designed for a class with SEND, SEMH and ASD learning needs. **

A carefully sequenced, highly engaging, multisensory RWI Set 1 phonics plan for pupils with SEND, ASD, and SEMH needs.
Focus one sound per week, following the RWI handwriting patterns, mnemonics, and images, weaving in Set 1 words for blending practice.
It’s systematic, repetitive, and sensory-rich so skills become embedded through overlearning.

Overall Structure

  • 1 sound per week (e.g., Week 1 = m, Week 2 = a)
  • Daily repetition in different sensory modes
  • Same lesson routine every day for predictability (important for ASD/SEMH)
  • Blend & segment words from Set 1 that match the taught sound
  • Cumulative review — every Friday, revisit all previously learned sounds in fun games
