In this lesson students will be able to explain what resources are, describe the difference between renewable and non-renewable and identify the distribution of resources throughout Russia. Then students will explain why these resources are important to the Russian economy then investigate why there are negatives of extracting these resources.

Task 1: Starter: Recap on previous lessons and 4 figure OS map practice
Task 2: Teacher assessment of whole class knowledge - Teacher to ask students to define resources to check for misconceptions
Task 3: Teacher assessment of whole class knowledge - teacher to ask students to give as many examples of resources as possible
Task 4: Students to describe the distribution of resources in Russia
Task 5: Students to identify the importance of resources on Russia’s economy
Task 6: Students to read through the work sheet and annotate key information then evaluate which of the impacts of mineral extraction is the most significant and why
Task 7: Main Task- “Explain how the resources that Russia has are both positive and negative” (6 marks)
Task 8: Purposeful retrieval - A chance for students to recap the low tariff, progression essential knowledge of the lesson
Task 9: Exit Ticket - A quick recap of key geographical information that students will have covered up to this point.
