An activity that could be used for a treasure hunt or translation challenge group task.
Ideal for end of term fun or for a ‘fizzy’ lesson.
Can be adapted for various abilities.
IDEAS FOR USAGE:
- Give one student a sentence each at random around the room – they must talk to each other to find the missing sentences and translate them into English in the correct order.
- Post these around the classroom or corridors (wherever you are allowed!!) for students to complete a translation treasure hunt.
- Adapt the sentences into a tangled translation (put some parts in English) and give them the target to get it all into one language or both languages, depending on ability level.
- Adapt the text into a gap fill – give them a sheet with missing words to complete and send them around to look for the answers.
- Play bingo – give students the whole paragraph on the board and then give them one strip each. Read the sentences out in a random order – last one standing wins.
- Speedy translation – in groups the students must reassemble to text and translate it correctly. You could remove the numbers if you wish.
