  • Slide 6: Starter Activity 1 - Students watch a 5 minute clip from BBC Teach (links given) and answer 4 set questions about how William established control.
  • Slide 7: Starter Activity 2 - Students shown an image of a castle from the Bayeux Tapestry and discuss what the image can each them about Norman castle building.
  • Slide 8-10: Task 1 - Students use a worksheet to identify and match the various features of a Norman castle. Answers and printable resources included.
  • Slide 11-13: A diagram with features of the Norman motte and bailey castle with questions and discussion points.
  • Slide 14-15: Task 2 - A printable worksheet for students to outline and explain the reasons for the Normans building castles and their importance to William.
