This 6-page MFL resource consists of colour flashcards featuring home vocabulary, with each page dedicated to a different room or type of furniture / appliance.
Every page has 20 images of related items, such as chairs, beds, sofas, tables, kitchen appliances, or study objects, allowing learners to compare and describe them.
Each object has another that is similar e.g. 2 different toasters or 2 sorts of clocks.
The objectives include expanding vocabulary, improving pronunciation, recognizing similarities between objects, and using descriptive language.
This resource helps develop listening, speaking and listening, reinforcing practical communication skills in real-life contexts.
Four ideas for using the resource:
(Cut out and laminate the Cards for durability and a range of activities).
(1) Matching Activity – Students pair similar items and describe their similarities and differences.
(2) Descriptive Speaking Task – Learners describe an object’s shape, colour, or function while peers guess what it is.
(3) Sorting – Students sort individual cards into sets e.g. all electronic appliances or things you might find in the living room.
(4) Writing – Students can list objects or write about the home.
The resource is useful too, for EYFS and KS1 children, supporting topic work on Homes.
