Marriage & Civil Partnerships PSHE lesson. This Marriage & Civil Partnerships lesson looks at the meanings of the terms marriage, civil relationship and cohabitation. The lesson covers the requirements of ensuring pupils are aware of the legal benefits of marriage compared to cohabitation or religious ceremonies and raises awareness that “common‑law marriage” is a myth, that cohabitants do not acquire marriage‑like legal status regardless of children or duration. The lesson briefly discusses forced marriage but ideally this would also be covered as a separate lesson. Pictures demonstrate an example of slides included. We also have a pupil workbook which can be used alongside this resource and offer it in a tutor time format.
