This resource is a ready-to-teach PowerPoint presentation providing all the information and activities you require to teach ESL learners how to make suggestions using ‘Let’s’. Suitable for both child and adult learners, this resource can be used online or in the classroom and is suitable for one-to-one or groups of learners. Created by Teacher Kaylee, a fully-qualified international school teacher, this lesson can be taught as a stand-alone lesson or as part of the Firefly Learner ESL English course (this lesson is unit 3, lesson 2).

The lesson covers the following:

LO: To make and respond to suggestions about what to do (let’s…)

Success Criteria:
• I can make suggestions for activities to do in the future
• I know that ‘Let’s’ is the contracted form of ‘let us’
• I can follow ‘Let’s’ with verbs in base tense, go + continuous tense OR ‘go to the [place noun].
• I can include a time when we should do that activity
• I can respond to a suggestion in the affirmative.
• I can respond to a suggestion in the negative.

Phrases: let’s [base tense verb], let’s go [continuous/progressive verb]. Let’s go to the [place noun].

Vocabulary: (let’s go to the…) café, airport, restaurant, mall, supermarket, cinema, lake, river, beach, park, playground, library, museum, sea, pond, gym, clothes store, swimming pool, (let’s…) read, cook, eat, work, exercise, watch a movie, walk the dog, play football, listen to music, play billiards, have a picnic, go on vacation, later, next week, next month, next year, in [x] hours, at [time], this morning/ afternoon/ evening, tomorrow, on [day of the week], in [month of the year]

Grammar points: let’s is a contraction of ‘let us’, which prepositions are used with a variety of time adverbial phrases
