This is a brilliant Design and Technology project and a really fun way to explore winding mechanisms.
The Notebook gives an overview of the project starting with children exploring toys with a winding mechanism, exploring what real life objects use this mechanism. Children will then be introduced to their main project. They can design their castle using the worksheet provided and then have a go making their castle with a working drawbridge (It may be an idea to let children have a go at making it first, evaluating what went well and what needed changing before making their final castle). Finally children can use the evaluation sheet provided to complete their project.
