Los cheques de quehaceres (Chores and money practice with preterit)

Sara Gómez runs a youth hostel in a town in New York. The hostel has 15 teenagers who live there and attend some of the local schools. Sara is frustrated with them since they never help with any chores. To help remedy the issue, Sara has set up a system where each teenager will be assigned a chore and upon completion of the chore, they will get a check.

Your task: Look at the list of teenagers residing at the hostel and the chores they completed. For each person, write out a check with the following guidelines:

  1. For the date (fecha), write today’s date (Ex: 03-10-25).

  2. For “pagar a la orden de” (pay to the order of), write the first and last name of the person.

  3. Spell out the amount in Spanish on the money line and write the numerical form. Ex: Quince dólares ($15.00)

  4. For nota (memo), Write a sentence in the preterit using the person’s first name and the chore they completed by conjugating the infinitive in the preterit in the Él / Ella conjugation. (Ex: Maragarita cocinó el almuerzo)

Note: A template of a check is provided. (15 checks total)

Sample:

  1. Luisa Casas - lavar los platos - $7.00

Answer key (checks filled out except the date) is included on pages 7-11.

Note to teachers: Copy page 1 separately from pages 2-6.

This practice can be used for classwork, homework, quiz, review, bell ringer, entry / exit slip. It can also be used with chapter 3A of Realidades 2.
