This booklet is an entire scheme of work on Bhangra music. It contains all written and practical activities for around 6 lessons, where students learn the different instrumental parts of a Bhangra song and then put them together in a group.
Designed, edited and used by a current Head of Music
The sequence of lessons and booklet design are designed as follows:
Flexible starter pages at beginning of the booklet.
Lesson 1: Introduction to Bhangra. Students learn about the history of bhangra, do some listening and learn to play the Chaal rhythm on the Dhol.
Lesson 2 and 3: Melody and Chords. Students learn how to play the Melody and Chords of Phatte Chuk Di by PBN on the keyboard.
Lesson 4: Bassline. Students learn how to play the bassline of Phatte Chuk Di on guitar, then fit it with the Chords on keyboard.
Lesson 5&6: Group performance assessment. Students get into groups and put the 4 parts of the song they have learnt.
Homework Knowledge Test, Success Criteria and Assessment Feedback pages at the back of the booklet.
This booklet requires the use of Dhol drums, Guitars, and Keyboards. The Dhol drums could be substituted for other drums, as long as there are 2 different pitches or sides able to be played on them.
