It contains all the basic information in easily digestible style using bullet points, sectioning and straightforward language. It can also be used as an effective revision tool to prepare for the functional skills reading test. Or print out to use as a using ‘cheat sheet’ for reference. The teaching slides feature a task on each slide to engage the learners in discussion or can be used as a more formal written task.

When teaching these types of topics it is always good to have specific examples on hand, so three suitable texts have been created and included to showcase the text features. These texts alongside the worksheet (to be duplicated 3 times, 1 for each text) provoke discussion and demonstrate the effectiveness of text features on the readers ability to understand and use the texts. They also provide opportunity to suggest what might be missing or could make the texts even better and provide more clarity.
