Oliver Twist
This lesson allows KS3 students to consider the themes, language and structure of a text set in Victorian England. The extract focuses on the use of sensory language. The extract is approached on a step by step basis, making the resource suitable for KS3 students beginning GCSE style studies or weaker KS4 students who find Language Paper 1 texts challenging.

This resource is also suitable as practice material for SATS or 11+ reading and writing tasks. The lesson can also be used as a general introduction to the work of Charles Dickens, or as a cross curricular resource looking at the social history of the Victorian era.

The subject matter is popular and allows students to apply prior knowledge and context to the text.
There is also an original / creative writing task, which allows students to develop ideas they have considered in the extract
