This KS4 lesson develops students’ GCSE History exam skills for the AQA Elizabethan England paper. The lesson guides students through the main question types they will encounter:

-Interpretation question (8 marks): Students analyse a historian’s interpretation of Elizabethan exploration and practise evaluating how convincing it is, with structured sentence starters and “We Do / You Do” modelling.

-Explain importance question (8 marks): Students explore the significance of Elizabeth’s Royal Court and practise writing strong, developed explanations using clear success criteria.

-Write an account question (8 marks): Students build skills in writing structured accounts, using activities such as chronology, categorisation, and guided writing frames (e.g. Puritan threats, conflict with Spain).

Differentiated Bronze/Silver/Gold activities, student-friendly mark schemes, and scaffolded tasks support learners of all abilities. This resource builds confidence with GCSE skills while reinforcing key Elizabethan content.
