Description
Are you looking for an engaging resource to teach electricity, parallel and series circuits, and Ohm’s Law? Your answer is here. With this resource, you will never run out of activities to engage your learners. It will provide an opportunity for your learners to:
-
Read about how electricity is made and how it’s related to the natural phenomenon of lightning.
-
Identify and draw circuit symbols
-
Build series & parallel circuits, measure currents and voltages, and observe bulb brightness using the PHET SIM Virtual lab.
-
Compare and contrast series and parallel circuits.
-
Solve Ohm’s Law problem set
***Please see the preview for sample worksheets and other details ***
What’s included in the resource?
1.Introduction to electricity (1 page)
2.Electric Circuit And Electric Symbols (1 page)
3.Series And Parallel Circuits Virtual Lab (1 page)
4.Series And Parallel Circuits Post Lab Questions ( 1 page )
5.Ohm’s Law Problem Set
6.Suggestions for Extension Activities
7.Answer Keys
Part 1: What is Electricity?
In this part, students will read a short introductory passage about electricity, current, and lightning. Afterward, they will answer some questions related to the passage.
Part 2: Circuit and Electric Symbols
In this part, students will match some commoncircuit symbols. Afterward, they will use the symbols to draw electric circuits.
Part 3: Virtual Lab
In this part, students will explore series and parallel circuits using PHET virtual simulation. This activity will allow students to build circuits, measure voltages and currents, and make observations on the bulb brightness. After completing the activity, students will answer questions related to series and parallel circuits.
Part 4: Ohm’s Law Problem Set
In this part, students will solve 10 calculation questions. The questions are great for practice during the lesson or at the end of the unit test. They have various levels of difficulties.
***Please see the preview for details ***
The resource can be easily integrated into your existing teaching materials, used as a stand-alone, or even as a review at the end of the unit.
I am confident this resource will provide you with many activity choices. Your students will be engaged as they explore the electricity, current, and circuits. They will get the opportunity to collaborate with others, build circuits online, and practice solving questions related to Ohm’s law. The activities require little prep time, which saves the teacher valuable time.
I have included the answer key to all worksheets. See preview.
