A mock non-fiction paper on the theme of prisons. One extract is from 2025 Daily Mail entitled, *’‘Inside the prison of the living dead’ by David Jones in El Salvador.’’ * The other is a 1897 letter from Oscar Wilde on his release from prison. Context: In 1897, the writer Oscar Wilde had recently been released from Reading Prison; shortly after, he writes a letter to The Daily Chronicle newspaper about a recent story they have published. It was common in the Victorian era for children to be put in adult prisons.
The exam paper is in the EDUQAS format and has all the questions on an EDUQAS paper e.g. search & find, writer’s craft, evaluation and comparison. My students found the extract interesting and good for finding quotes to discuss.
I have provided two transactional writing questions to complete the exam paper.
