This lesson continues on from the EDUQAS GCSE COMP 2, MUSIC VIDS (SEC B) 2024 ONWARDS: MUSIC VIDEO CODES & CONVENTIONS WORKSHOP and is a TRIPLE lesson (LESSON 1-3) on Taylor Swift’s ‘The Man’ music video. This lesson focuses on:

-Context slide on ‘The Man’
-The three types of music video (Performance, Narrative, Experimental) and application task to ‘The Man’.
-Application of RESISTS to ‘The Man’ with exemplar scaffold on ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’.
-Genre and Swifts evolving career.
-Pop genre conventions.
-Plot, narrative (linear/ non-linear) and the application of binary oppositions and 8 spheres of action, with scaffolding slide.
-Deconstruction of 6 frames from ‘The Man’ with ‘Taylor made term bank’
-Intertextuality (direct/ indirect) in ‘The Man’ with visual deconstructions to aid students.
-Encoding/ decoding.
-Breakdown of the following question with a in-depth, colour coded scaffold sheet:

  1. How far do these two products challenge the conventions of music videos? [20]
    In your response, you must:

• explore examples from the two music videos you have studied

• refer to relevant media contexts

• make judgements and draw conclusions.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at GCSE, as a three-year Course.
