The Dead Ringer synopsis:
Grade 1 teacher Suzy Rhodes and her mother are being evicted from their home by local miser Sherman Lavein. The mortgage has not been paid since Mrs. Rhodes became ill and Sherman is looking forward to finally taking that property. Suzy and her mother move to a smaller home and Mrs. Rhodes passes away. One day while counting his money, Sherman feels numb on one side of his body. Fearing for his health, he visits Dr. Jackson, who tells Sherman that he may have a stroke if he does not change his habits for the better. Sherman wonders what will happen if his entire body becomes paralyzed. Another fear begins… the fear of being buried alive! Sherman has a bell with a tube and a rope attacked to his burial site. A few days later, Sherman is found motionless in his bed and is placed in his casket. Is he dead or does he have temporary paralysis? Find out in The Dead Ringer readers’ theatre unit!
