This booklet is a longer project based on the criteria for the ASDAN PDP 6B1 Redesigning a Room. It consists of 7 worksheets designed to guide learners through the entire process:

Introduction and Measurements
Learn to measure room dimensions and practice measuring furniture.
Timing: 1 hour

Drawing to Scale
Choose an appropriate scale and draw the room layout including walls, windows, and doors.
Timing: 1 hour

Calculate Floor Covering Using Area and Perimeter
Calculate the floor area for carpeting or other coverings and the perimeter of the walls.
Timing: 1 hour

Planning of Furniture
Understand the purpose of furnishings and add furniture to the scaled drawing.
Timing: 1–2 hours

Calculating Surface Area for Walls and Openings
Calculate the surface area of walls and subtract the area of windows and doors.
Timing: 1 hour

Estimating Material Quantities and Costs
Estimate the amount of paint needed and calculate the overall cost.
Timing: 1 hour

Design and Presentation
Compile all drawings, calculations, and explanations into a final report or presentation.
Timing: 1–2 hours

This project is suitable for learners working towards the ASDAN Bronze award and can also be adapted as an end-of-term maths activity for Year 5 to Year 8 students.
