
A complete lesson covering section 4.5.3.3 of the AQA GCSE biology specification- treating kidney failure with dialysis and transplant.
The lesson starts with 7 retrieval questions from the Biology course. It then moves to some quick activities covering the role of the kidney and the filter. It the discusses kidney failure and introduces dialysis and transplant as treatments.
There is then a matching exercise where students need to define some key terms. This is followed by some more review questions and an exam style question looking at rejection.
The lesson then looks at the pros and cons of the two treatments and students complete a worksheet.
The next activity is another worksheet including a case study of a patient with kidney failure. This includes a series of questions, with extension, to consolidate and extend understanding
The lesson closes with another long answer exam style question
