A unit designed for ACARA version 9. Lessons designed for 70 minute periods with a mixed range of abilities.

The lesson begins with students copying down explanations of ethos, pathos and logos (types of appeal).
There is a persuasive writing warm up activity (where students have to convince me to watch a tv show / sport or visit a restaurant or listen to a song). They need to use ethos, pathos and logos.

Following this, students are introduced to another influencer that they can choose to use in their assessment: makeup influencer James Charles. Key details are provided (date of birth, nationality, numbers of social media followers, target audience details). There is a viewing activity from 2025 (buying makeup from Tik Tok shop before it’s banned). There are 3 viewing questions for students to watch out for. There is information about how much he earns from social media. There are some quotes he has given to the media e.g. US magazine. Then we look at some of his social media posts to identify his values, attitudes and beliefs. There is also information about some of his online controversies and what it means to be demonetized by YouTube.
