Introduction to Google Sketchup - CAD

(0)
This resource has been designed to introduce students to CAD CAM and teach them the basics of using Google Sketchup specifically with product design in mind. This 30 page slideshow and accompanying booklet will guide students through first understanding what CAD is and then teaching them how to use Google sketchup. The slides have step by step screenshots with written instructions that allow students to work at their own pace. I have used this resource for the past three years and it has really helped my students learn how to use sketchup and design prototypes for their projects. My GCSE students still refer to it when creating joints or CAD modelling for their coursework. The resource doesn’t require much teaching but will work better if the teacher can demonstrate the steps on a projected screen first. Can also be used as cover if required. All the slides are editable.

Food Preparation and Nutrition - Introduction to NEA task 1

(2)
For teachers of GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition. This power point resource can be used as an introduction to the NEAs within the AQA specification (but could be adapted), the food investigation and specifically the structure and assessment of the NEA task 1, including the beginning of a mini task. Activities for students are integrated within this comprehensive power point with interactive/animated options for answers . Examples are a word filler exercise on the structure of the report (starter), definition tasks on key words from the main task, a mind map to analyse the task and true or false plenary. Explanations and guidance on the structure of the report are very informative for both teachers and students. The example task is about "the affects of ingredients in the sensory characteristics of pastry", but can be easily edited to other food products. The activities in this version can be edited fully and modified for differentiation or your specific food product instead of pastry.

Introduction to the 6Rs

Sustainability is a crucial part of Design and Technology and one of the topics at GCSE where pupils frequently make mistakes or show an incorrect understanding. This 20 page PowerPoint resource has been written by a former senior examiner for one of the three main examination boards and has been tried and tested with students in the classroom. It introduces the 6Rs (rethink, reduce, refuse, repair, reuse, recycle), explains to learners what each means and shows how each can be used. It also introduces activities to help students to remember the 6Rs and demonstrate the knowledge needed for the examination. It is suitable for the both the current and new GCSE D&T courses where sustainability and/or the 6Rs is covered by the specification. What teachers have said about this resource: 'Thanks for this resource - well made and very useable for my students.' - SG

This is a full booklet, looking at nets. The booklet has been designed in the style of an action hero comic. The booklet can therefore be used as an extension activity for the student to complete the look of the comic using colour and their own design flair. The project works through the design of a net action character and its packaging. Students are introduced to different font and illustrative design techniques. The projects allows them to develop their own individual style and incorporate it into their design work. Students will learn how to create, fold and produce nets that make a 3D figure and its packaging. Please look at the free booklets that I have published so you can gain an idea of the content and detail put into my booklets.
