I am currently a Spanish teacher and I was tired of looking for effective, straightforward teaching resources for my Spanish students so I decided to make them myself! Prior to teaching, I was professionally trained in curriculum design & development. Today, my materials and approach to teaching Spanish are used by Spanish teachers all across the country! I am new to TES but wanted to explore another avenue for sharing my teaching resources with as many people as possible! Happy teaching!

Reinforce learning of possessive adjectives with this fun board game! The object of the game is to be the first person to collect at least two flashcards in all categories using the correct possessive adjective & associated vocabulary word based on the picture. In order to play this game, students should first be familiar with Spanish possessive adjectives, (singular & plural), and simple vocabulary associated with food, school items, family members, household items, personal items, animals, and clothing. (Alternatively, you can write Spanish vocabulary words on the back of the flashcards if you want to focus on the possessive adjectives alone.) Possessive adjectives covered by this game are: MI, MIS TU, TUS SU, SUS NUESTRO(A), NUESTROS(AS) VUESTRO(A), VUESTROS(AS) SU, SUS Print out the game board on white card stock and cut into two half-size game boards, (you may need multiple copies). Laminate or use page protectors for durability. Print out flashcards on white card stock. Cut along the lines. For this game you will need: Game board, one per player Flashcards One dice Choose 4-5 students, or have students choose partners and work in teams. Give the players each a game board. Detailed instructions for playing the game are included.

I love using simple songs and stories to reinforce learning! Calico Spanish has a lot of great videos to teach basic concepts like “Me Gusta” and learning how to use descriptive words in Spanish. I’ve developed this activity to blend nicely with these videos by Calico Spanish. Directions… First, have students listen to the story on YouTube called “Así Me Gusta a Mí” by Calico Spanish. Then, have students listen to “Chocolate, Uno, Dos Tres…” by Calico Spanish. Then, have students complete the worksheets working together as a class.

Spanish Picnic Game! (Game to Learn Food Vocabulary in Spanish!)

(0)
¡Vamos a Hacer un Picnic! Check out my video preview to see how this game is played. This is honestly the most efficient & fun way to teach a lot of vocabulary quickly! Students love it! This is a fun game played with a single dice used to teach students the names of common food items in a fun, interactive way! In order to play this game, students should first be familiar with basic food vocabulary in Spanish. There are six categories and the first five include 12 food items in each: Fruits or “FRUTA” Vegetables or “VERDURA” Main Dish or “PLATO PRINCIPAL” Drink or “BEBIDA” Dessert or “POSTRE” If a player rolls a 6, he/she loses one item to the ants! Directions: For the game board, choose one of two pages, (one for a smaller, paper saving option and one for a larger option). Print out enough so that you have one per player or team. Laminate for durability. Print out pages 4 & 5, front-to-back and keep as a reference for game play. Print out the food cards on cardstock, (12 of each category), and cut along the lines, (pages 7-11). For this game you will need: One dice Place setting, (one per player/team, small or large) Food flashcards, (printed on cardstock) Teacher Tip! Help students learn this vocabulary by writing the Spanish name for each item on the back of each flashcard. Also, if you like this game, be sure to check out one of my best selling resources, “¡El Restaurante Fantático!” How to Play… The object of this game is to be the first to collect at least one food item from each category before the ants take something away! The first player starts by rolling the dice. For a “1”, choose a fruit, “2” a vegetable, “3” a main dish, “4” a drink, and “5” a dessert. If a player rolls a “6”, he or she loses one item to the ants! If a player already has an item from a certain category, he/she may collect another for up to 2 items per category. For a more difficult game, the players must use the correct Spanish word for each item in order to collect it. If a player does not know any of the items or says the name incorrectly, the teacher should say the correct name out loud and move on to the next player. For a more simple game, teach the Spanish word for each item that is chosen to the players as review. The first player that collects a food item from each category is the winner. Recommended number of players or partner teams, 4-5.

Teach your students the names of food in Spanish using this fun activity with minimal prep! This activity works for all grade levels. For younger students, focus on coloring, cutting, gluing and practicing the food vocabulary. For older students, have them skip coloring and cutting and just draw their favorite foods and then have them focus on the verbal presentation. Super versatile and lots of fun. Use the first page as a visual aid to review the names of food with your students. Print out the following pages so that you have enough for each student. (Note: Food sheets are designed for cutting in half to save on paper.) Have students decide which meal they are going to choose: El Desayuno (breakfast) El Almuerzo (lunch) La Cena (dinner) *Then, have students color and cut out their favorite foods and paste them onto the place setting. Encourage students to label food names in Spanish. Include the names of each part of the place setting for an extra challenge, la servilleta, el tenedor, el plato, el cuchillo, la cuchara). Finally, have students present their favorite meals to the rest of the class in Spanish! “Para el desayuno, mi comida favorita es…” “Para la cena, me gusta comer…” “ Etc.
