What’s included? x5 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for children in the early years, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to encourage learners to investigate the concept of symmetry within x6 spot/dot pictures. How to use it? The learner can explore the concept of the ‘line of symmetry’ by using a safety mirror to complete the right hand side of the B&W/colour pattern or create their own symmetrical spot/dot pattern using the blank sheet provided. Suggestion Using safety mirrors along side the activity would make a huge difference to understanding (or not) for some learners. Best to use these where they are available, Resource Details
The B&W and colour version of this resource show the same patterns (with answers) but a ‘blank’ is included for the adult/learners to create their own. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. A review of this resource would be really helpful - thank you! Counting in 2s and the two times table

What’s included? Two downloads of the same resource - one is the question/activity resource, the other the answers in the same layout for easy reference. x4 portrait, pdf sheets in total. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Page 1 The resource explores the pattern of counting in twos, on a number grid to 32 learners first circle the ‘twos numbers’. Learners are then presented with the two times table in order with boxes in which to write their answers. They can use their findings from the circles drawn on the grid above to complete this, however if this is too tricky initially learners can leave this section and proceed onto the next (last) section (which begins on page 1) - exploring ‘pairs’ of numbers, using ‘headphones’ as a clear visual guide. Page 2 continues to explore ‘pairs of twos numbers’ using the headphones throughout to make the question being asked clear to learners. There is a box for learners to write their answers in for each question. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the upper right side of page 1 (vertically) and the lower left side of page 2 (horizontally). Important message

Alphabet Wheel 'See the picture, say the (initial) sound...'

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes one A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise recognising the letters and order of the alphabet. What’s it for? This alphabet wheel has been designed to be an interactive way for learners to practise saying the sound of each letter of the alphabet. Learners turn the wheel, say what the picture is showing e.g. ‘monkey’ then the initial sound for that picture - ‘mmm’. As they turn the wheel learners may be able to predict which sound will be next (depending on how well they know the order of the alphabet). For a challenge learners could turn the wheel anticlockwise and see if they can recall the alphabet sounds backwards! Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Dotted lines guide where to cut and where to create a hole. This resource will need to be printed onto card (or if printed on paper, glued to card afterwards) to ensure it is sturdy enough to be used by little hands. A single split pin is needed for this resource. The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the alphabet images on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the alphabet wheel can be turned to reveal one easy to recognise image at a time for every letter of the alphabet - in order (if wheel 1 is turned clockwise). New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes three A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise reading and writing CVC words within Phase 2. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the CVC Phonics Wheel can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesn’t matter. Some words will be ‘real’ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real/will be ‘nonsense’ words e.g. len/ren - these can be written on page 3 - there is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet). Suggestion For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ‘real’ words e.g. ‘fen’ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England). Phase 2 Phonics fans x4 colour coded sets

New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to make x4 phonics fans featuring all sounds in Phase 2. What’s it for? These phonics fans can be used in a variety of ways to practise and reinforce learners knowledge of all Phase 2 sounds. Fans can be made as separate sets or combined on one ring depending on the needs of your learner/s to explore independently, as part of a group or class. The fans can be used to sort/match, answer questions and play games. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Red Set 1 (page 1) Includes sounds s a t p i n Orange Set 2 (page 2) Includes sounds m d g o c k Yellow Set 3 (page 3) Includes sounds ck e b r u h Green Set 4 (page 4) Includes sounds f ff l ll ss How to use this resource As all letter sounds for Phase 2 are included here the all can be combined onto one ring as one set. I have included ‘covers’ for each individual set incase the preference is to split the sets. A ‘cover’ for ALL sounds is included on Page 4. Phonics fans can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. Learners can use these phonics fans as a personal reference resource to cross-check the correct grapheme or orientation of individual letters if unsure when writing. Phonics fans can also be used for a variety of games and to involve learners during sound rhymes and songs. These fans are a great size to fit into a pocket or clip onto a lanyard to be accessed both inside the classroom and outdoors. Suggestion I recently purchased some brightly coloured plastic keyrings which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic. These could be ideal should you wish learners to access the contents of the ring (e.g. to order the letters) and come in a variety of colours. Alternatively I have found standard metal keyrings also work well as a more permanent ‘holder’ of the contents threaded onto the keyring. I recommend that each letter is laminated before punching a hole and threading onto a keyring - this is included in the instructions on the pdf. Important message
ANY issues with these phonics fans please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of these resources would be wonderful! Thank you.

New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x3 A4 portrait pdf sheets. These include three dice to make, x2 ‘game cards’ and simple, clear instructions for how to play the game. What’s it for? This resource explores CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant, e.g. ‘dog’) words to read and write. Learners use their phonic knowledge to make and read words rolling and ordering the three dice provided. Learners then write these words in a list - deciding if each word is ‘real’ or ‘nonsense’. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Red Die 1 (page 1) Includes sounds s b h m p r Amber Die 2 (page 2) Includes sounds a a e i o u Green Die 3 (page 2) Includes sounds ck d g ll n t How to use this resource An adult needs to cut out and make the three phonics dice - clear instructions are included. Each player will need one game card (and a pencil!) There are two game cards included on page 3 - these can be printed/photocopied as many times as needed and the sheet cut in half to separate the two game cards (one per player). This game can be for one learner to play alone or for several learners to play together in a group (taking turns). The game instructions are included on pages 1 and 3 of the download - I will also include them here: How to play game Each player takes turns to roll the three dice together. Each player places the three dice next to each other, left to right - red, amber, green. Player sounds out the graphemes to read the word. If this is a ‘real’ word player writes it in the coloured boxes on their card (on the ‘left’ side). If this is a ‘nonsense’ word the player writes this word in the coloured boxes on their card (on the right side). Play passes to next player. If a player rolls the same combination as previously rolled they can have another turn. First player to roll (read and write!) x5 real OR nonsense words wins! There are various words which can be made using this combination of letters in the set order. Some ‘real word’ examples include sat/bat/hat/mat/pat/rat, pig/bill/hill/mill/pill, pull/bug/hug/mug/rug, sock/rock/hog, hen/men/pen/red/bell/sell. I hope you have fun finding them all - real AND nonsense! Who’s it for? Christmas Alphabet picture/grapheme cards to match (Single-sided)

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes x7 sheets, all portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? These Christmas alphabet matching cards have been designed to be printed onto card to practise identifying the x26 initial Christmas-themed alphabet sounds. Learners match the initial sound for each image with the correct grapheme. A fun way for learners to practise their sound knowledge at Christmas. This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional support with learning. How to use it? An adult prints these cards onto A4 card and and pre-cuts them into x52 separate rectangle cards. The set of cards is shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to sort and match. Learners could use this resource on their own or with adult support. Learners could also use this resource to order the cards alphabetically. Learners look at each image and say this out loud. They then identify (verbally) the initial sound of the word e.g. for the first letter of the alphabet the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then look for the ‘a’ grapheme card to match the two cards together. Resource Details
This recourse includes x26 pictures - one (initial sound) for each letter of the alphabet and x26 matching grapheme cards - all Christmas themed. An extra ‘n’ for ‘nutcracker’ is also included (so x27 pictures and letter cards). This set also includes an ‘Answer sheet’. The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners making these a talking point and opportunity to extend their ‘Christmas vocabulary’. For clarity all images are labelled on the right side of every grapheme card, e.g. ‘quince’ may easily be presumed to be a ‘pear’. Pictures included: a Advent Calendar b bauble c cracker d dove e elf f fire/fireplace g gift/s h holly i invite/invitation j jingle bells k king (two versions of the ‘k’ grapheme are provided) l lantern m mistletoe n nuts / n - nutcracker (two ’n’ cards are included) o orange p pudding q quince r robin s star t tree u under (the tree) v Vixen (a reindeer!) w wine x Xmas zest (of lemon/oranges, lemon pictured) x2 versions of the grapheme ‘k’ card are included as some learners may be more familiar with one font style than another - two ‘king’ cards are also included. The answer sheet has been designed for learners to use and check answers independently, encouraging autonomy. Important message

New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? x6 sheets each with x5 picture/grapheme cards for all letters of the alphabet plus additional options for e/n - all Christmas themed. All sheets are portrait orientation, pdf format. The alphabet cards are designed to be double-sided and used with a Function Machine. How to make a Function Machine is available as a resource to make yourself, following step-by-step instructions. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? These cards have been designed to be cut out and made into double-sided cards for learners to practise identifying the initial sounds for x26 Christmas-themed images. This is a fun opportunity for learners to practise their sound knowledge in the run up to Christmas. Without a Function Machine these cards could be used by learners to self check - turning over the card to see if they were correct. How to use it? An adult prints these card shapes onto card and follows the instructions which are included on every page of the resource. In total x28 picture/grapheme cards are included. The set of (double-sided) cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners look at each image and say this out loud. Learners then verbally identify the initial sound of the word. E.g. for the ‘a’ card the learner would say “Advent Calendar” and then “a” (for ‘Advent’). Learners then post the card (image side up) and when it pops out of the Function Machine’s lower slot (grapheme side up) they can see if they were correct. As an additional activity learners could order the cards alphabetically. Resource Details
 The pictures included use words with clear initial sounds. Some images/words may be completely new to learners - an opportunity to expand their vocabulary. E.g. ‘quince’ may easily be presumed to be a ‘pear’. For clarity all images are labelled on the back of every card. Pictures included: a - Advent Calendar b - bauble c - cracker d - dove e - elf / elves f - fire/fireplace g - gift/s h - holly i - invite/invitation j - jingle bells k - king (two versions of the ‘k’ grapheme are provided) l - lantern/light m - mistletoe n - nuts / nutcracker o - orange p - pudding q - quince r - robin s - star t - tree u - under (the tree) v - Vixen (a reindeer!) w - wine x - Xmas z - zest (of lemon/oranges, lemon pictured) Important message

Wordsearch - January words

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x2 (portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring one ‘January’ word search (page 1). The answers on page 2 clearly show where all words are hidden, displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Who’s it for? This wordsearch has been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Nouns are illustrated to make the meaning of these words clear to learners - this would also benefit pupils with EAL. Resource layout The wordsearch letters are arranged in a x12 by x12 square grid and featuring easy to read ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The January words have been organised into four groups of five clearly showing all hidden words below the word search. There are x20 words to find in total. These words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards), vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (backwards, down). Words to find are; celebration, midnight, happy new year, party, resolution, calendar, diary, first, goals, January, candles, cold, cosy, dark, winter, Aquarius, Capricorn, carnation, garnet and snowdrop. Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified, some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible. This word search may be printed and laminated to be reused. Important message

Data Handling - Favourite Colour Investigation

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This download includes two sets of three A4, portrait pdf sheets (a ‘black and white’ AND ‘colour version’) to investigate which colour is each pupil’s favourite. What’s it for? This investigation has been designed for a class of 30 pupils - up to 32 spaces are available on the bar chart. Learners investigate which colour is the favourite of every member of the class. This information is then transferred to a bar chart and once this is complete learners answer questions about data. Your learners should be data handling experts at the end of this data handling investigation! Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one (with support) and two as well as older students. Resource Details The layout of this data handling investigation is the same for both the B&W and colour set. If completing this as a ‘whole class’ activity it is worth noting that for the purpose of this activity ALL learners should choose only one favourite colour when asked (even if they have several!) It would be helpful if learners keep this (single!) favourite colour the same throughout the investigation so that all of the data collected by all of your learners is the same. Page 1 Learners would benefit from having a ‘clip board’ to clip page 1 to. They will also need a pencil/pen to record their findings. Learners are to ask up to x32 people ‘What is your favourite colour?’ Learners then record each response using the tally system. To begin learners first record ‘how many pupils’ are present (in class) that day - in the space provided at the top of page 1. Once the data has been collected the number of tallies for each colour can be counted. The total of all colour groups can be added together to check if the same number of people identified as being present that day matches the number of tally marks actually recorded. This is an important part of this data handling investigation and an important lesson in careful, accurate data collection. Page 2 Using the information recorded on page 1 learners transfer this information to the bar chart presented on page 2. Learners colour the same number of ‘coloured boxes’ for the number of tallies recorded for each favourite colour. There is space on the bar chart for up to 32 people (for each colour group). Page 3 The questions on page 3 link to the information collected and recorded on pages 1 and 2. There is also an opportunity to practise both reading a tally and writing the correct number this shows as well as recording a number as a tally. Important message

How to make a Function Machine

(0)
New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What is a Function Machine? This download includes a list of exactly what is needed to make a Function Machine as well as x5 portrait orientation pdf instruction sheets (with photos) explaining exactly what to do - step by step. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What is a Function Machine? A ‘function machine’ is like a post box but when something is posted into the top slot it pops out of the lower slot reversed - to younger learners this can seem like ‘magic’ ! A Function Machine can be made from a simple shoebox and is designed for double-sided cards (credit-card size is perfect) to be posted into it. What’s it for? Once made a Function Machine can be used in lots of ways as different sets of double-sided cards are built up to use with it. Examples include - number bond facts adding doubles facts times tables practising phonics sounds (grapheme on one side, image with that initial sound on the reverse) reading noun words (picture on reverse reveals answer) The list of possible uses is endless and up to you which direction to take this in
This is a great resource to invest in making as it’s a little bit different and can be used to demonstrate learning in an interactive way and for those learners who like to ‘do’ this can really engage and keep them interested - learning without realising - perfect! The instructions include photos from different angles, showing details at the different stages to make exactly what to do as clear as possible. It’s actually not that tricky once you grasp the aim but when it’s made (and it works!) it’s pretty cool - learners really enjoy it! Important Message Any issues let us know - we are happy to make changes.

2D shapes for window display

New online service coming soon with FREE downloads (including this resource) available! For more information visit https://alphabetlearning.online What’s included? This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring x23 2D Shapes with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane 2D shapes for (window) display. What’s it for? These 2D shapes have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the shapes look beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the colour ‘falls’ depends on the position of the shape in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole set of 2D shapes together as a focus to encourage learners to recognise and name each 2D shape and become familiar with recognising and naming them as well as lots of exposure and so time to count the number of sides/corners and think about the properties of each e.g. which have straight/curved sides (or both!). The 2D shapes can of course be repositioned and displayed as you choose. A ‘2D shapes’ label (to be displayed with the set of shapes) is also included. This resource would also support work on shadows and light/dark. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through these shapes when the sun comes out! Resource Details There are x5 pages. The first page includes clear instructions and the remaining pages include the set of shapes and 2D Shapes word label. 2D shapes featured in this resource are: arrows (up and down), semi circle, circle, oval, ellipse, crescent, triangle, equilateral triangle, right angled triangle, diamond, rhombus, trapezium, parallelogram, square, rectangle, star, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon. Suggestions We recommend printing and making these letters out of white card - paper would be too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive online. We also recommend backing every 2D shape in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time and to do this x10 sheets of A4 white card will be needed (instead of x5 sheets).
