This particular unit of work includes a selection of engaging theory tasks (see below) that will enable them to gain new knowledge of this popular cuisine. Learners will then have the opportunity to plan, prepare and follow a Pizza recipe and method. They will finally self-assess their performance, receive feedback from an observer and set targets as part of their overall evaluation. The 8 tasks are set as follows: What is Pizza - Introductory small writing task that promotes group discussion. History of the Pizza - A true and False Quiz that will educate learners on facts of this world foods origin (answers on the last page) Types of Pizza - An activity that requires the learner to match up ingredients with the correct pizza name (Italian to English). The Perfect Pizza - Learners to work in pairs to investigate alternative ingredients and how they can accommodate lactose and wheat intolerances. Health and Safety - A task that enables learners to highlight health, hygiene and safety awareness in the Kitchen. What will you need? - An embedded maths activity where learners have to calculate the right amounts of ingredients depending on how many pizzas they would have to make. Over to you - Practical Element, learners will pair up to follow a method and cook a Margherita pizza using various ingredients supplied. Self-assessment - A written evaluation, including guided questioning. Photographs taken during practical can be attached. This resource has been designed to subtly embed the valuable functional skills learners required to get the most out of education, work and everyday life and to help them function more confidently, effectively and independently. Each resource has been proven to educate learners on a variety of subjects that will enhance knowledge as well as promoting creativity and individuality. This particular Fun Game of Higher or Lower focuses on the calorie count of various popular foods. Simply print off the 30 different food cards (back to back) onto card or alternatively laminate them. Shuffle them and place the pile somewhere everyone can see or have a glamourous assistant hold them for you. Ensure that the cards are displaying the front of the cards. Split in to two teams. The dealer will draw the first card, each team needs to try and guess the calorie count in that food item. The dealer will reveal the answer and whichever team was the closest gets to start. The dealer will then in turn flip each car revealing a new food item. Each team needs to guess whether the calorie count is higher or lower than the previous card. Every correct answer will earn that team a point. The team keep going until they get one wrong and it the switches to the other team. The game finishes when all the cards have been revealed and the team with the most points win. Alternatively you could ask the learner to stand up for higher or sit down for lower! Learners are tasked with studying 3 different examples, a Bus Timetable, a Swimming Pool Timetable and a College Session Timetable and then extracting the information required to answer the set questions and confirm understanding. The questions can be answered individually or collectively by cutting them into cards. The larger A3 versions (included) can be displayed around the room for the learners to work in groups. Alternatively, the questions could be called out by the tutor for a more active learning experience. Lots of scope for interpretation, the resources also included some blank question sheets so learners can create some peer to peer questioning.
