Resource 1: a Lesson Mat (colour and black and white versions - editable word document or pdf) that includes an explanation of what persuasive writing is, explanations of the AFOREST techniques, what a ‘call to arms’ is and why it is an effective persuasive technique and why we use inclusive pronouns in persuasive writing.
Resource 2: a Subjective versus Objective Knowledge Organiser (colour and black white versions - editable word document or pdf) that explains the difference between subjective and objective language, what styles of writing we use them for and explanations of key words such as bias and perspective.
Resource 3: a one page fact file (editable word document and pdf) on plastic pollution in our oceans.
Resource 4: a lesson powerpoint (editable) that includes the lesson aims, identifying the difference between subjective and objective writing, identifying AFOREST techniques, changing objective facts into subjective, persuasive sentences, identifying and analysing a ‘call to arms’.
The aim of the lesson is to support students in being able to recognise the style, tone and techniques required to write an effective persuasive speech about plastic pollution in our oceans.
