22 Lessons - KS3 Unit of work on World War 1 Poetry, using the following poems: Whos for the game?, Dulce et decorum est, Suicide in the trenches, In Flanders fields, The Soldier, Anthem for doomed youth, Limbo, For the fallen, Mental Cases and Base detail.

Resources include:

  • 2 Assessment & Assessment Prep lessons (1 reading & 1 writing.)
  • Writing assessment using Sassoon’s 1917 letter to The Times as a model and prompt to respond to
  • A range of activities for each poem
  • Repeat questions for each lesson
  • An annotated version of each poem in each powerpoint with analytical questions for pupils to answer when annotating. Answers supplied in the powerpoint so that students can check their answers.
  • Worksheets on context and some of the poems.
  • Discussion tasks
  • Key context lessons on WW1, mental health, propaganda, etc.
  • A variety of analytical questions and creative writing activities.
  • Reflection/plenary activity for each lesson
