An ideal project to start GCSE Music. This comprehensive scheme of work covers clefs, notes on the stave, rhythm values, time signatures, articulation markings, bar lines, sharp, flat and natural symbols, dynamic markings, tempo markings - everything students need to know in order to read a piece of music! There is also a lesson on monophonic, homophonic and polyphonic texture.

The scheme of work incorporates practical activities as well as worksheets so that students generate revision materials.

Students will apply their knowledge by learning a section of Pachelbel’s Canon in D and performing within a group.

Download includes:

  • a comprehensive lesson PowerPoint
  • worksheets
  • two recall tests - one formative and one summative
  • arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon in D with differentiated parts - bass and guitar tab included plus two parts for Bb instruments

A great transition project to start GCSE Music and consolidate KS3 learning before moving on to exam content. Would also be suitable for BTEC. Students find this SOW fun, engaging and purposeful.
