Description
Pupils’ love being creative with this hands-on project. In this practical unit, pupils develop and apply Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills, and how each interrelates.
Challenges:
Engineering bridge structures out of spaghetti
Engineering geodesic domes out of sweets
Upcycling waste into toys.
Students familiarise themselves with the keywords, then there is a design and make task, applying their understanding of the theory learnt, which can be done in a group or individually.
All lessons have strong cross-curricular links. There is also peer assessment with clear success criteria included.
♦ Starter Activity. ♦ Class discussion/individual tasks.
Preparatory task. ♦ Practical main task.
♦ Consolidation task.
Each challenge is planned as a double lesson (90/120 minutes).
