Spelling Choices for ‘ie’ - (‘ie’ as in tie, pie; ‘igh’ as in sight, light) is a KS1 and SEND resource using symbols to support selection of the correct spelling from ‘ie’ or ‘igh’.
The pack includes 12 worksheets organised into 4 sets; each sheet shows 8 symbols with space underneath for writing.
Sheet 1 (colour): children write the word under each symbol, choosing the appropriate spelling (ie/igh).
Sheet 2 (black and white): the same sheet for colouring and spelling practice.
Sheet 3 (black and white): colouring and words in dotted format for tracing to support handwriting — a differentiated step.
Set focus: Sets 1–4 all contrast ie’ and ‘igh’ with varied word lists, some words more challenging e.g. lighthouse.
