What was it like long ago? Let’s read, look, talk, and compare!
This Old and New reading comprehension pack invites young learners to explore how things have changed and what has stayed the same. With three thoughtfully structured texts (Starter, Standard, Stretch), children build essential reading skills step by step: starting with retrieval and sequencing, then moving into vocabulary, inference, and reasoning.
Across all levels, pupils learn that homes once used candles but now have lights, toys have changed from wood to plastic and can now move or make sounds, and transport has gone from carts to cars and planes. They also discover that people have always needed places to live, ways to travel, things to play with and that we can learn about the past by asking older people or looking at pictures.
What’s included:
- 3 differentiated reading texts on the same topic
- Matching comprehension question sets
- Full answer key with skill tags
- Traffic light self-assessment
- Black-and-white, print-friendly format
From carts to planes and dolls to robots, help children read through time!
