The first lesson titled “Migration Nation: Who are the British?” introduces students to the expectations of the History department (editable to fit your department’s expectations) and the foundational concepts of studying history. It emphasises the importance of understanding the past through evidence, interpretation, and curiosity, encouraging students to see themselves as historians.

The lesson explores the idea that Britain has been shaped by waves of migration over thousands of years, prompting students to consider who the British are by examining society, culture, politics, and more. Key historical skills such as chronology, source analysis, and inference are introduced, setting the stage for deeper inquiry into Britain’s diverse origins.

The following lessons explore: Evidence, Chronology, Similarity and difference. It is a good way to start Year 7.
