This lesson focuses on how Shakespeare presents Macbeth as a character who is influenced by others, preparing students to answer the exam-style question: “Explore how Shakespeare presents Macbeth as a character who is influenced by others.” Students will identify key influences on Macbeth—such as the witches, Lady Macbeth, ambition, fear, and false confidence—and explore how these are developed across Acts 1–4. Through a series of differentiated activities, including a starter discussion, a teacher-led quote recap, and a main task where each student is given one of 27 printable quote-analysis-context slips to share and explore, students will build a strong bank of ideas and evidence. The lesson concludes with a short written task where learners use their peers’ points to construct a focused paragraph. Key quotations, contextual links, and analysis are embedded throughout, with opportunities to discuss language and structure. Resources include the full set of printable slips, a lesson structure, and an optional follow-up exam response.
