A 5+ lesson scheme of learning (can be extended) to teach the basics of Trestle Mask. This is suitable for Year 7-9. The scheme should be minimal prep and can be taught completely from the Powerpoint.
I created the SOL to support non-specialists in the department so have included any helpful tips in the notes section and suitable for teachers of all experiences, this should make the resource even more of a time saver.
Lesson 1 - Introduction to non-verbal communication and rules of mask. An opportunity for students to be brave and experience wearing a mask. A low stakes lesson to support the nervous performer and the most confident.
Lesson 2 - Exploring the rules of mask and how to mask up. Creating performances between masked and non-masked characters.
Lesson 3 - Exploring Major and Minor focus - Blocking a scene to consider impact on audience.
Lesson 4 - Devising a performance using masks
Lesson 5 - Performance Assessment.
