Introduce your students to the genre of dystopian fiction with this Powerpoint that explains the origin of the term. After contrasting modern dystopian novels, the lesson focuses on the opening of George Orwell’s 1984, looking at how he constructs the introduction. After several opportunities for discussion and feedback, students are invited to write the opening to a descriptive peace entitled, “A Perfect World”. The extract of the opening is included in the folder.
