This resource is a student work booklet on Trench Warfare during the First World War. Students explore what life was really like for soldiers in the trenches, describing conditions in detail and assessing how dangerous different aspects of trench life could be. They will also recall at least 10 key facts about trench life by the end of the lesson. Whilst this booklet was made for Cambridge IGCSE History (Depth Study A: The First World War, 1914–18), it is also suitable for other exam boards that cover trench warfare. The activities link directly to the Cambridge IGCSE History Coursebook, Second Edition, which students will need to use alongside the booklet.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the conditions in trenches in detail.
  • Understand how dangerous different aspects of trench life could be.
  • Recall at least 10 facts about life in the trenches.
