AQA GCSE Geography lesson for the 2016 specification Unit 2C, the optional unit on food management: In this second lesson we look at the causes and impacts of food security.
We start with a short multiple-choice quiz based on some of the statistics that we looked at in the previous lesson. We then look at the factors that affect the amount of food we have. The students have a worksheet for this and have to categorise the impacts into one of six categories by highlighting the appropriate icon. The students are then reminded about what is meant by food security. The students watch a video on food security and answer questions relating to the video. We look at the main impacts of food insecurity ans the students complete a ‘thermometer’ analysis of the impacts by shading in the thermometer according to how severe they believe the impact is and then justifying this. There is a mapping task where students use an atlas to locate where these impacts have occured. We then answer a GCSE-style 4 mark question on food insecurity with some guidance on the structure and some points they may wish to use.
Hope this saves you some valuable planning time.
