This fun and interactive phonics activity is perfect for consolidating children’s understanding of common consonant digraphs! Children will become Digraph Detectives, sorting words onto the correct themed mats based on the digraph they contain.
The digraphs included are: sh, ck, th, kn, wr, ch, wh, ng, and ph.

What’s Included:

  • 9 colourful sorting mats, each focusing on a specific consonant digraph.
  • A catchy sentence on each mat that highlights the target digraph (e.g. “Sophie the “ph” dolphin”).
  • 7 word cards per mat, featuring words that contain the digraph (e.g. phone, photo, elephant for “ph”).

How to Use:

  • Print and laminate for a reusable center or phonics station.

  • Have children read the sentence on the mat to reinforce the digraph sound.

  • Children then sort the word cards onto the correct mat based on the digraph.

Perfect for individual practice, small group work, or guided reading sessions.

- Recognising and identifying consonant digraphs
- Strengthening phonemic awareness
- Enhancing early reading and decoding skills
