Learning resources that introduce the concept of design to KS2 pupils. Intended for teachers to use flexibly with their classes. The presentations include interactive elements such as ‘click and reveal’ to encourage class discussions. They begin with a question and end with a short quiz.

This Design Literacy resource is intended to supplement Design and Technology and may also cover topics in the curriculum subjects of Geography, Science, Maths, and Art and Design. It is a companion to the Climate Change All Change (CCAC) ‘Climate Literacy’ resource and is intended to provide background for the CCAC Co-design Climate Change programme. It can also be used as a stand-alone introduction into the subject of design.
The content of the resources derives from CCAC’s work with Year 5 children (9–10-year-olds) in UK state primary schools.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify starting points for design professional knowledge, activities, and understanding.
- Develop curiosity about what designers do, how they do it, and what they can achieve.
- Identify how their skills can be effectively used to mitigate the effects of climate change.
