This lesson focuses on using a light microscope to observe plant and animal cells and is intended for a GCSE Biology class. The lesson is designed to last sixty minutes. By the end of the lesson, students should be able to use a light microscope to observe cells, safely prepare slides of onion epidermis and cheek cells, draw accurate scientific diagrams with labels, include magnification and scale, calculate actual cell size using the magnification formula, and identify key differences between plant and animal cells. Success criteria include the ability to prepare and stain slides correctly, focus and use different magnifications, produce accurate labelled diagrams, calculate magnification, and explain one key structural difference between plant and animal cells.
