A unit designed for ACARA version 9. Lessons designed for 70 minute periods with a mixed range of abilities.

The lesson begins with a reminder of what a thesis statement is and a couple of examples. I have some slides where I have filled in the planning sheet using Abbie Chatfield as an example. I use this to show where on the planning sheet they should look when trying to develop their thesis statement. Then I take them through the steps to write an introduction (step-by-step). There are 5 steps in this process. I then give some tips about what should go on their PPT as they say their introduction.

Then I put up some questions for them to think about as they plan to write body 1. We look at some statistics and research findings they might be able to use. There are also some example similes and metaphors which could be used to illustrate the effects of social media on users. There are also some reminders of other language features they could use and a reminder of TEEEL paragraph structure. There are some sentence starters and some post writing steps (proofreading and self-editing).
