How can small choices shape a greener world?

Join the worldwide call to action of World Environment Day, a global event that encourages people everywhere to take better care of our planet. Through three engaging reading texts, students explore one of today’s biggest challenges, plastic pollution, and discover what governments, communities, and individuals can do to help.

Introduce this timely topic with a clear progression of texts: Starter, Standard, and Stretch. Early levels focus on simple retrieval and sequencing. Higher levels develop vocabulary, inference, and understanding of the author’s intent, encouraging thoughtful reflection and analysis. A simple traffic light self-assessment helps students consider their understanding.

Across all levels, students will learn that World Environment Day is a global event held on the 5th of June to protect the environment. They will explore how plastic pollution harms wildlife and human health, causes lasting damage to oceans and land, and how countries are introducing laws to reduce plastic use. The texts also highlight the ways individuals, including students, can make a difference by refusing, reusing, and rethinking plastic in everyday life.

What’s included:

  • 3 differentiated texts (Starter, Standard, Stretch)
  • 8–10 comprehension questions per level with mixed reading skills
  • Full answer key with skill tags
  • Black-and-white, easy-to-print format
  • Traffic light self-assessment for student reflection

Perfect for linking literacy to global citizenship, science, or environmental values. Created with care to be inclusive, curriculum-friendly, and ready to print!
