A lesson that is taught to mixed ability Y9 taking 3 lessons. It follows on from a unit on plate tectonics so one of the APKs may need to be edited to match your schools SoW. It includes:

  • Defining a desert
  • Global desert locations and describing distribution
  • Plotting a climate graph from Death Valley
  • Interpreting climate data from a table
  • Understanding why it is hot near the Equator
  • Understanding the Hadley Cell and how it creates different air pressures
  • Understanding of relief rainfall
  • explaining several different factors that make the Mojave Desert dry.
