Excerpt from the text analysis response:

…This is a critical juncture when the central theme of superstitions is first introduced with a sequential list of tasks performed by the midwife Bisoondaye. The use of action verbs “brought”, “cut them”, and “hung” in the phrase beginning “brought back leaves … strip over every door” shows how determined she was to keep any “evil spirit” at bay directly alluding to her highly superstitious mindset, which in some sense is emblematic of the mindset of traditional rural society. Furthermore, the repetition of “every” in the phrase “every door, every window, every aperture” depicts the fact that Bisoondaye ensured that the small hut was fully protected from the penetration of any evil spirit, hence again emphasising her frantic and irrational behaviour broadly shaped by not only traditional beliefs but also her relentless misfortunes in life…
