This resource is a student work booklet on the War at Sea during the First World War, focusing on the Battle of Jutland and Gallipoli. Students explore the different types of naval warfare, assess the challenges posed by unrestricted submarine warfare, and judge whether the Battle of Jutland was a disaster for Britain. The booklet contains structured activities to build knowledge, analysis, and evaluation skills, with Paper 1 exam practice included. Whilst designed for Cambridge IGCSE History (Depth Study A: The First World War, 1914–18), it is also suitable for other exam boards that cover the First World War. The activities link directly to the Cambridge IGCSE History Coursebook, Second Edition, which students will need to use alongside the booklet.
Learning Outcomes:
- Judge whether the Battle of Jutland was a disaster for Britain.
- Explain why unrestricted submarine warfare was such a huge problem for Britain.
- Describe the different types of naval warfare during the First World War.
