This lesson uses the stories of Lilian Lenton and Joyce Locke to explore the impact of the Hunger Strikes in the Suffragette’s campaign for women’s suffrage.

The lesson is planned in a sensitive manner, and focuses heavily on using primary sources, as well as improving literacy through guided readings.

Students will analyse the Hunger Strike medals issued by the Suffragettes, as well as looking at a letter about Lilian Lenton’s hunger strike to assess the government’s perception of the Hunger Strike.
