Made Jan 2025 - This is a scheme of work created for Year 9 students studying the Horn Of Africa. It includes the below lessons plus and end of topic assessment and a draft mid-topic assessment. There are also multiple opportunities for extended writing which could be “formally” assessed. This topic has a mixture of more Human and physical Geography lessons. Based on 75 minute lessons these are quite strong but they can be easily cut down. There are also often options of tasks which can be selected to best suit your students.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to the Horn of Africa (What is it like? Where is it? Which countries are included?)
Lesson 2- Why is it important globally? (Trade, Diaspora, Aid)
Lesson 3 - The “borders” in the horn of Africa
Lesson 4 - Rainfall in Ethiopia (physical)
Lesson 5 - Drought in Ethiopia (human)
Lesson 6 - Somalian Pirates (Could be moved earlier)
Lesson 7 - The Blue Nile and regional Conflict
Lesson 8 - Urban Africa

It includes a range of tasks in each lesson (videos with questions, mapping tasks, sorting tasks, comprehension question, evaluation and reflection, extended writing including letter writing, diagram drawing and more!).
