Hello,

Thank you for finding your way to this resource and my page.

This Scheme of Work is designed to support the delivery of Unit 6 – Solo Performance on the BTEC Level 3 Music Performance course.

While the unit is highly practical in nature, students are required to complete three key assignments:

  • Assignment 1 – Written Article (Practise2Perform): Students create an interactive article for an online music magazine, demonstrating their understanding of what makes a great solo performer.
  • Assignment 2 – Rehearsal Plan: Students design and follow a structured rehearsal plan to support their performance preparation.**
  • Assignment 3 – Live Performance: Students prepare and perform a 7–15 minute live set, showcasing technical ability, stagecraft, and personal style.

This resource pack contains five flexible lessons (or ‘sessions’) that can be delivered at any point throughout the unit, depending on when your class is ready to progress to the next assignment.

Session Breakdown:

  • Session One: Introduction to the unit and Assignment 1, including a teacher example of a distinction-level article.

  • Session Two: Guidance on effective article writing, with links to further examples, suggested sentence starters, and a comparison exercise to encourage analytical thinking.

  • Session Three: Introduction to Assignment 2, with a teacher example of a distinction-level rehearsal plan that students can use/adapt.

  • Session Four: Introduction to Assignment 3, with clear instructions on how to prepare and what to include.

  • Session Five – What Makes a Good Performance?: This session explores three respected professional musicians and prompts students with engaging questions to consider what makes their live performances so compelling.

Each session includes a glossy presentation packed with easy-to-follow teaching guides, videos, illustrations, ‘hidden teaching notes’, and suggested practical activities.

Everything you need to develop students’ knowledge and understanding for Unit 6 is right here.
