AQA English Language Paper 2 Section B/Q5 lesson for the 2026 questions that explores non-fiction writing through the use of language devices and how adding these can influence a reader or audience. Students think about how using DAFORREST techniques can add weight or authority to their non-fiction speeches.
We analyse a speech about arguing for or against public transport to a local council and how the writer/speaker has used language devices to sound convincing and knowledgable, meeting the purpose and audience in the process.
Students then write out one paragraphs of their speeches in response to the exam task provided and these are peer assessed around the use of language devices and their effects.
Useful for KS4 students preparing for GCSE English Language Paper 2 Question 5, and adaptable for KS3 as well.
Includes adaptive learning approaches, differentiated activities, engaging worksheets, modelled examples, extensive teacher and student notes and more.
